Introduction of Abacus

The abacus which is commonly called as a counting frame is a calculating device that was used in China, Europe and Russia, centuries before the adoption of the written Hindu–Arabic numeral system.

It’s a simple device for calculating, consisting of a frame with rows of wires along with beads.

It is scientifically proven that the left side of the brain is responsible for controlling the right side of the body and Vice Versa. When a child uses the right hand fingers on the beads of Abacus, the left side of brain stimulates and when left hand fingers are used the right side of brain stimulates. The right hemisphere creates an image memory of the beads on the Abacus while the left hemisphere logical side applies the requisite rules to perform the calculation.

Abacus  sharpens our memory and increases our ability to perform mental calculations; the child visualizes the abacus while performing calculations which automatically activates the right part of our brain especially when we move our fingers over the beads while solving the problems. Later on, the students can also perform the calculations without using the abacus, by just visualizing the abacus in their minds.
